It is hard to believe that we are nearly half way through Term 1. We are looking forward to our annual whānau picnic tomorrow! When: Thursday 7 March 2024 from 12.00pm to 1.30pm
Where: School field. If wet, the picnic will go ahead in classrooms and/or hubs.
What: Whānau can bring their own blankets and food to share with their children. Children with no whānau visiting will take their lunch boxes and sit with their peers, classmates and teacher. We have also organised to have a coffee cart on site for those of you who would like to purchase a hot drink to have with your picnic.
1.30pm: Students return to the classroom for the afternoon session.
Important to consider: We suggest that students avoid ordering a school lunch on this day if possible, as lunchtime begins at the earlier time of 12.00pm and lunch orders are not delivered until 12.30pm
Loose Parts Play Boxes Last Friday was a lovely day in the playground at lunchtime. The students were happlily engoaged in lots of different activities! There was lots of excitement with our new spare parts play boxes. The kids just loved it and they were so creative! This spare parts play is part of our playground activities available for students every lunchtime! Our student leaders were an amazing support for our younger students and loved getting amongst the creative play.
Enjoy the rest of the week and we hope to see you tomorrow! Ngā mihi Kylie
School Swimming Sports
Huge congratulations to those students who took part in the Rototuna Swimming Sports at Fairfield College on Monday 26th February. We had a small but enthusiastic group of students who enjoyed challenging themselves to do something different. A massive thank you to those parents who came along to support our swimmers. We are very grateful to Anna Beveridge who did a great job of organising the event.

We are super excited to be going on our first camp since Covid times. It was fabulous to see so many parent helpers at the camp parent meeting last week. Thank you so much for putting your name forward and giving up your valuable time to be able to make camp a possibility for the students.
Thank you to all the parents who have paid for their child's camp experience. Payment for camp needs to be made by the end of this week.
Community Code of Conduct
Did you know that our school has a Community Code of Conduct?
Rototuna Primary School is committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for students, staff, and visitors.
Our Code of Conduct serves as a reminder to all parents, caregivers, and school visitors that their conduct must support everyone’s emotional and physical wellbeing, and not harm it in any way. The school’s board has set this Code of Conduct as a condition of entry to our kura.
I have attached a copy for your reference. We are reviewing this Code of Conduct as part of our Term 1 policy review.
We have been alerted by our public health nurse that there has been a chicken pox outbreak at a local school in our area. Included below is a link with some helpful information that you may find beneficial. It is important to be vigilant and ensure that if any child has any of the signs or symptoms they must stay home from school. The stand down period is for seven days from the onset of the rash or when the scabs are dry. Children who have not had their 15 month varicella vaccinations are most at risk of contracting it so the public health nurse is encouraging parents to vaccinate their children. The immunisation is free for tamariki up until they are 12 years old.
Chickenpox is a common childhood illness caused by a virus. Tamariki can have free chickenpox immunisation at 15 months of age.www.kidshealth.org.nz
