We have a few important updates for the weeks ahead, including some changes to our usual timetable due to an upcoming paid union meeting, and a Teacher Only Day focused on professional learning for our staff. Thank you for taking the time to read through the details.
Paid Union Meetings
The NZEI (Primary Teacher’s Union) has advised us that the next Paid Union Meeting will be held on:
Monday 25 August from 1.30pm
This meeting has been called following the rejection of the Ministry of Education’s recent offer to support staff, teachers and principals. Under Section 26 of the Employment Relations Act (ERA) 2000, all NZEI members are entitled to attend two paid union meetings per year.
What this means for our kura
Our kura will be open for instruction on this day. However, with reduced staffing while teachers and support staff attend the meetings, our afternoon sessions on Monday 25 August will run a little differently. In the afternoon, students will be shared across classrooms, and our timetable will be:
1:30pm–2:00pm – Learning time
2:00pm–2:30pm – Supervised Break time
2:30pm–3:00pm – Learning time
Please note: your child may not be in their usual classroom at the end of the day on Monday 25 August . If you would like to pick your child up early on this day, you are most welcome to do so.
Teacher Only Day: Friday 5 September
School will be closed for instruction on this day. Teachers will be participating in MOE facilitated professional learning focused on the NZ refreshed Maths Curriculum.
RPSTalent Show I am super proud of the 70+ students who have signed up to share their pūmanawa (talents) with their peers in our school Talent Show. I admire their confidence! Thanks to Miss Edwards and Miss Jenkins for organising this wonderful opportunity for our tamariki to shine.
Ngā mihi Kylie

Bike Safety
We have noticed a number of our tamariki riding to and from kura on bikes without wearing helmets. In New Zealand, it is the law for all cyclists to wear a standards-approved helmet, and it’s one of the simplest ways to protect yourself and your child against serious head injury.
Please ensure your child wears a properly fitted helmet every time they ride – to school, home, or anywhere in between. Let’s work together to keep our riders safe on the road: Be Smart - Be Safe - Be Seen.
Check out the attached information sheet on how to choose the best helmet for your child..
To support us plan our next new entrant classroom and our new entrant spaces for 2026 we encourage you to enrol your child at our school as soon as possible! The enrolment process is able to be done online via our website.
For 2026, the Board of Trustees has made the decision to accept out of zone enrolments for students who are turning 5 years of age in 2026 and starting school for the first time.
